(2021) edition of 1; 2” x 11” x 14”, handmade abaca paper, recycled notebook paper, graphite drawings with thread collage, binders board, book cloth
This handmade book is a series of 20+ sheets of abaca paper incorporating recycled journal pulp and drawings with pencil and thread. The title, which translates to small hunts and traps of the mind, references a series of engravings printed in Diderot and d’Alembert’s Encyclopedia depicting nets and other contraptions used during hunting chases. Here, I consider tools of the chase in the capture of something more elusive: my ideation and creative process in the studio. Starting from a list of action words that I associate with my studio practice, I drew a series of sieves and abstract devices that might conjure or procure creative inspiration from the scattered thoughts in my notebooks. These drawings were then pressed between two sheets of abaca paper, and housed in a book box.
